Maybe you’ve heard of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge? Well, this 10 Day Cleanse is the first part of that 24 Day Challenge and you might have noticed when we have cleansed in the past we have stuck to really just doing the first 10 days of that challenge, so that is an option. Here is a list of what you will actually need for this cleanse –
- Box of the Herbal Cleanse
- One bottle of Omegaplex
- One bottle of Catalyst
- Optional: Spark
Now let’s get into more of the nitty gritty of what your food should and should not be for the 10 days that you are on the cleanse –
Don’ts:
Refined sugars, corn or white starches
Wheat products (bread, pasta, muffins, etc.),
Dairy of any kind (milk, cheese, yogurt)
White sauces, dressings such as ranch, blue cheese
Alcohol (you can go without – it’s only 10 days)
Coffee (lattes and coffee full of milk or creamer definitely NO, but if you are a black coffee drinker then in our opinion you don’t have to stop drinking it.)
Soda
Fried foods
Hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup
Fruit juices
Cereal
Bottom feeder seafood (shrimp, lobster)
Extremely small or low doses of butter, margarine, or mayo (ideally these are never used but definitely not on a regular basis)
Do’s:
Vegetables: Fresh or frozen are preferred over canned. Stick with more greens and avoid starchy vegetables like corn.
Fruit: look for fruits lower on the Glycemic Index, but a good rule of thumb is northern fruits: apples and berries. Oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, grapes, kiwi, and bananas are OK but keep to one serving.
Healthy Fats: avocado, nuts, olive oil, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts
Meats: clean meats are best in the whole form, ground is OK, but not for every meal. Chicken, tuna, salmon, halibut, eggs, beef is OK, but is not the first choice, and turkey.
Clean Carbohydrates: sparingly during the cleanse – Rice, hummus, oatmeal, quinoa, rice cakes.
Also OK: Lentils, legumes, fresh mint, lemon or lime juice, 100% cranberry juice to add flavor, egg beaters, mustards, relish, low mayo, pickles, spaghetti sauce with not added sugars (organic and clean) salsa.
What we both like about this cleanse is that it isn’t an unrealistic cleanse. It is very doable and if you are trying to get rid of processed food from your diet this can very much aid you in that process. To make this a successful cleanse try and do as much food prep early on so you don’t get in a bind later. Advocare recommends doing this cleanse once every 3 months.

Am interested in this challenge. Big diet coke addict and know i need to quit. other substitutes allowed in cleanse and rest of diet like unsweet tea, OJ, cranberry juice, etc? i know lots of water is recommended but would like something of taste with meals.
Hi, Bill! Yes, diet coke really is not such a good thing, but isn’t recognizing it a step in the right direction?! Go you! More to your question unsweet tea is ok, cranberry juice only at a minimum like 1 tablespoon to flavor water, they really push the spark drink for energy and vitamins. You could also try doing the Nuun All Day tablets to flavor your water! Hope that helps!
For best results I would avoid the balsamic because it contains higher amounts of sugar. Also milks of any kind are good to avoid but if you must, stick to unsweetened almond or soy. Good luck!! You might also try the spark warm if you need that! It’s a good energy source!

I would agree. When my husband and I took the Advocare cleanse the first few times, we made the mistake of letting it sit for a few minutes. Wow it was rough going down. We quickly realized that was not the easy way. Now we take it every few months and love love love it.
I know AdvoCare only recommends doing the cleanse four times a year, but can you do the 10-day cleanse more than only four times a year?
I would say no. Your body will adapt making it less effective. Others may have different opinions. Advocare puts a lot of care into research so that amount is based on research! I’d stick with it 😉
I am only using the Herbal cleanse box. I thought that was all I was supposed to get with the cleanse? Will it make a huge difference if I don’t use the Omegaplex and Catalyst? I do take 2 Fish Oil capsules daily. Thanks for the recipes too, they look delish!
You will be fine! Although the catalyst is my favorite supplement that Advocare makes and is great when working out and building lean muscles! 🙂
Thanks! I am on day 3, doing well except I did have a diet dew today 😦 I had to! (no, I really didn’t!). Do you ever eat PB, or is that a no no on the cleanse? I am hoping this will give me a jump start to my weight loss. I am doing Weight Watchers and workout 4-5 times a week, I am just in a slump right now….
PB is totally fine. Keep to one serving a day and pair with a fruit! Get the cleanest version you can find.. We love Justin’s PB. Look for organic!! Good luck and this is a great jump start. Keep eating clean like the cleanse and add just a few things back! You’ll get it off!
Can you eat eggs or do they have to be egg whites only?
We typically do a mixture 1 whole egg to 3-4 egg whites.
I have eaten three oranges today and I’m currently on day 7 of the cleanse… is that a no no?
That’s a lot of oranges for 1 day but they are good scrubbers! I’m sure you didn’t do much harm!
Is Fruit 2O okay to drink? or should it just be plain water?
Honestly, in general that’s not something we’d recommend because there is so much fake stuff you can’t even pronounce IN that water like hexametaphosphate. What the heck?! Sucralose listed as an ingredient is an artificial sweetener..for your overall health and wellness long term you are better off infusing your own water with fruits! Better for you and then you know EXACTLY what is going into your body.
I have been doing the 10 day cleanse for five days now and I don’t feel like its working its not cleaning my intestines out like it should are there some fruits and vegetables I can eat more of to help cleanse me out better.
Is this based on bowel movements? 🙂
Question, on day 1-3 I had some bowel movements. It’s now day 6 and haven’t had any the past two days!
Really, there can be a range of what your body does on the cleanse as far as bowel movements is concerned. Press on and let’s see what the scale says at the end of your 10 days!
I’m nursing, can I do this cleanse?
We don’t actually know….neither one of us has even had a kid yet, so we don’t feel comfortable offering an opinion on that. Probably best to ask your doctor!
I started the cleanse this morning and started feeling really sick I started throwing up and everything has anyone felt like this ?
I am so sorry to hear that. I am not sure what it could be. There is really nothing that should make you sick. Was it in the morning or after the cleanse pills at night?

When I did the cleanse I wasn’t drinking enough water and felt really bad. I think my body was reabsorbing the toxins because I didn’t intake enough water to flush them out. Maybe this was your problem. Good luck!!

I am on day 3… I ordered a chicken salad for lunch without realizing that there was Gorgonzola cheese on it. I scrapped as much of it off as i could but there was still a little left. Do you think this will interfere with my cleansing?

Is diet soda really bad? I had a terrible headache today at the pool. Needed caffeine, so I got a coke zero. I’m on 2nd day of cleanse….did I ruin it???
Diet soda is just so full of chemicals. We are both of the opinion it’s not good for you whether you are cleansing or not cleansing! If you just had one you’re probably fine. We both try and eat as little processed food which means food that has GMOs and tons of FAKE stuff in it on a regular basis. Our advice to you would be to try and kick any form of soda and stick to coffee (although on the cleanse this would need to be black coffee) or green tea when you need a caffeine fix! Or you can always use Advocare’s Spark as an energy booster for the future!
I am on day 6 of the cleanse and I have been eating whole wheat bread and occasionally soft corn tortillas as my complex carbs for breakfast and have been eating greek yogurt for a snack each day. On my instruction box it said those were acceptable for snacks and carbs. Am I making a huge mistake?
Also, I am running a lot but am lacking calories, is a Spark enough or can I use the GU gels on long runs?
For long runs I would use a real food. Try dried fruit. Raisins, apricots, etc. rice cakes and pb are a good fuel also quinoa. Try to stay away from corn based products just for healthy sake! You will cleanse better!

I did the 24 day challenge 2 months ago. I did well for a few weeks afterward but recently have not made the best food choices. I bought another 24 day challenge, but now see that it recommends every 3 months. Can I do it a month early?

What is the 80/20 rule? Can I salt my food? What about marinades?
Basically 80/20 means follow the rules to a t 80% of the time. Really I am for 90% when cleansing for weight loss. Cheat or bend rules very slightly 20% of the time

Yes that is fine! Don’t worry about the ranch! Ou need to aim to stick to the guidelines 80+ percent of the one! Olive oil is a good fat for you to use just use sparingly.

Yes! Keep to 1 serving a day and really use in an “I’m dying” situation! I just eat them before a good workout when on the cleanse.

Not ruined! Just take it out!! Stay as close as possible and just keep it super clean. Cut out the cheese too!! More veggies and fruit and you will be fine!!
I’ve read conflicting info re Catalyst. Is it used in place of protein for a meal? Or is it taken 30 minutes before all meals?

Catalyst is not for protein and doesn’t replace it!! It can be taken either 15 min before a work out or 30 before a meal. We usually take it before the workout for a little boost!!

This question kind of unleashes in us more information than you probably wanted. 🙂 It is our opinion that products such as Mio should not really be apart of your day to day lifestyle and it is not cleanse friendly. While you’re on the cleanse you really should be drinking water, black coffee, tea and/or Spark. Your best alternative on the cleanse is to add a slice of fruit to your water for flavor it is way better than a product with artificial sweeteners in it. Have you tried Spark??

I’m thinking about doing the cleanse.. but there r so many foods to stay away from.. i think my biggest problem would be breakfast i have oatmeal at least 5 days a week. also no whole grain bread or dairy products i love greek yogurt. any suggestions
Are you not an egg person? There are egg cups/muffins you could pre-make so that you have breakfast for a few days ready for you. You can stick to oatmeal for breakfast it would just have to be your only clean carb for the day really for it to be effective. We’ve mainly done the cleanse as a 10 day cleanse and not the full 24 day cleanse. You can do anything for 10 days, right? The cleanse can be a good eye opener of what you need to incorporate into your diet more and food items to limit. It is a cleanse so it’s limiting for a short period of time to clean out your system. If you are worried about it maybe see if a friend will do it with you so you can each support each other throughout the 10 days?
What kind of premade egg cups/lunches can you suggest? Not sure what you were talking about with the egg cups and I need a few quick grab and go as I am teacher and don’t have many breaks. Thanks!! Love what I have read!

The breakfast ones goes more into what you could put in your egg cups. You could just make an 8×8 pan of eggs with veggies mixed in and have it cut up so you just reheat for breakfast!
Does it really matter if I take the herbal vitamins right at bed time? I remember to take them a little before bed, then end up staying up another hour. Does this matter?

Yes! As a matter of fact catalyst has bcaa and glutamine in it but totally understand taking what you already like and use! Whey is totally fine as well! I think you are good with all of that! Good luck!!

its a highly dense complex carb post workout mix with 3 grams sugar… i am unsure of this the most because of it being a carb replenish drink for my post 3 hour training sessions.
I am on day 4 of my cleanse and have done great, down 4 lbs. so far. I have a few questions that I am unable to find answers for; do where is pork mentioned~is a lean boneless pork chop off limits? what about parsnips and turnips? any suggestions for breakfast protein besides eggs? also, serving sizes are not listed anywhere, is one egg a serving, how many ozs. of meat, etc.
Yay!! That is awesome. For your questions. Pork is typically not considered “clean” so for cleanse purposes I’d limit or avoid. It’s not a bad meat per se so don’t worry if you have had it but I’d choose chicken or fish first. Whey protein smoothies are good for the morning, meal replacement, shakeology, nuts. These can work. You can also eat chicken or something like that- its fine! Serving sizes aren’t listed bc it’s not about calories but of you like that (as we do) we stick to what’s “normal for us” 4-5 oz meat, 1 egg 3-4 egg whites combines, unlimited veggies, 1 cup fruit, 2oz nuts…

I’m on day 4. I’m doing all the right things…and all the plumbing is working well. I don’t really see any results so far. I’m hopeful for some loosening in the clothes by the end of day 6 or 7.
I did not get Catalyst with my purchase. I did get the cleanse with Spark. Then the MS3 for days 11-24 and the Omega.
If I purchase the Catalyst but don’t really work out (except to ride my bike about 20 minutes every other day)….will it be very effective for me?

I forgot to add…..I have never tried a diet like this before. But, I was getting a little concerned that the weight I put on over the last year during menopause just wasn’t coming off…only going higher. I now need it to come off before I need a whole new wardrobe.
You can do it!! Be consistent and patient! This is a healthy and more permanent way to lose the weight!
One last question….is one glass of wine on day 4 or 5 completely out of the question?
I would avoid it!! Lots of sugar buuuuut it’s not going to destroy you. I just don’t recommend it and don’t make and to repeat it. Adult bevs are pretty bad for weight lose. We hate that!! We like our wine!
With all the focus on healthy ingredients, do we know why Advocare uses sucralose in Spark? They use stevia for the meal replacement shakes, which is acceptable to me, but I’m disappointed by the artificial sweetener sucralose being used. I usually avoid artificial sweeteners 100% and I’m disgusted that during my cleanse I’ve been ingesting this junk 2x per day. Literally everything else I’m taking in during the cleanse is healthy and non-processed and then there’s… sucralose. Have you heard anything from Advocare on this issue? Are they considering a change?

Finished my 10 day cleanse~down 12.5 lbs! Yay for me!! Makes me realize I can do this, however eating out is tough. Went away for a long weekend, didn’t eat like I did at home, but did not gain any pounds back. So onward and upward I go. Looking for next goal of 20 pound loss.

Can you eat a salad with lunch meat like a salad (with no dressing) from Subway during the Cleanse?
Lunch meat is very processed and typically has tons of sodium. Advocare suggests avoiding it but of that the best option at the time do it. It’s waaaaayyy better than some other options
Hope this isn’t too weird of a question, or personal, but what are your thoughts on starting a cleanse, or possibly being on a cleanse when that time of the month comes? Does it affect it adversely? Or would you just want to consume more water or something?
It really doesn’t effect you much. The added water weight and bloating can still happen but keep as close tongue cleanse as possible and your results just might seem a few days delayed when your body goes back to “regular” it’s just mentally annoying but your body is still cleansing!
Can someone taking antidepressants, anxiety meds, thyroid meds for an under active thyroid, and high blood pressure meds safely do the cleanse?
We recommend asking your doctor because we don’t know the specifics of your meds sorry!!
Heavy coffee and diet cola drinker here. If I drink coffee with non dairy creamer and use stevia or sweet ‘n low is this okay? What about diet cola? Please don’t say drink fruit juices as an alternative. It is diet cola.
No soda!! Ok with the coffee but its not the greatest but keep it non dairy and stevia. We highly recommend spark as a great alternative. You can drink it hot or cold but if you have to have coffee we def get it but spark is awesome!
I’m on day two of the cleans faze. I am having headaches and going to the bathroom to pee about every 20 mins. Is this normal?
Yes! Usually withdrawals from sugar, processed foods, or caffeine. Drink lots of water and power through!
I am starting the 24 day challenge this Sunday. I normally have a Slim Fast Shake for lunch…what can I have for a quick and easy lunch.
We like the advocare meal replacement shakes and shakeology by beach body. We make meals a week in advance so we eat a lot of homemade soup or salad.

Basically you thought you’d be using the bathroom A LOT? Is that what you mean? That’s not really the case for the cleanse and the 10 days of the herbal cleanse we would say does more than you realize, but you gotta trust that it’s working its magic. It’s just like when you start working out for the first time or eating right again it’s not over night it takes time! Do make sure you are drinking LOTS of water though!!

Is there any way to do the cleanse without using any advocate products besides spark? Just eating clean and drinking lots of water? Really want to do the 24 day challenge with friends who have started it (we all had babies in March and April so trying to get back into shape and on track with health) but I cannot afford the products. My roommate has spark and dehydrate but I just want to know how important the catalyst and stuff is. Are there “substitutes?”

Do you mean the fiber drink? Mixing it with the orange flavored Spark makes it more orange juice like with pulp. The Peaches ‘n Cream flavor of the fiber drink is actually more tolerable in my opinion than the citrus flavor!

As far as dips or condiments rather for these 10 days you can use mustard, ketchup (in moderation), worchestire sauce (in moderation), vinegar and greek yogurt. This is my first day of the cleanse and the fiber drink for me was horrible. Could I mix it in with my egg whites for breakfast?
Hi, Ashley! Assuming you have the citrus version of the cleanse? The fiber drink really is a CHUG and done type thing since it’s not that great tasting and if you let it sit too long it congeals. The best alternative we can offer you is to mix it with a scoop of Spark. Since you take the fiber drink and your Probiotic Restore at the same time you’re suppose to wait about 30 minutes to eat, so we would not recommend mixing it with your egg whites. Sorry!

Wow! I wish I had this when I did my first one. I did my first one in June of 2013. It was easy! You definitely know when you need another. I am on my second one now. The first one, I lost all cravings after 3 days. In fact, when I ate the sweet, salty and fried foods, it would make me feel sick to my stomach. I soon became an advisor and truely cannot see myself ever living with out it.

I am on day 2 of the Cleanse Phase. How many OmegaPlex pills do you take a day? My adviser told me 2 pills twice a day, but on the 24 day challenge brochure it just lists it once a day at dinner. So I need to know which one is correct. Also, how many catalyst a day?
Hi, Marci! Your adviser was correct in telling you twice a day and preferably with a meal! You can take up to 9 catalyst a day which should be 3 catalyst either 30 minutes before a meal or 15 minutes before a workout. Good luck with the cleanse!

Hi, I’m on the 2nd day of my cleanse. I kicked diet coke a few years ago and now do not drink any caffeinated drinks. I have had spark the last two days as a trial to see if it would help with morning workouts and mental acuity. I don’t really feel much different when I drink it but I have a terrible headache this afternoon. I’m concerned it’s the caffeine. Are there any disadvantages to cleansing without spark?

Sorry to be redundant…. On day 1 and the Omegaplex has me confused. It reads in the brochure like you should have 1 but I’ve read others say 2-6…. Also is it just before dinner? I’ve read others say 2x a day. Thank you!

I am now starting the max phase but yesterday when I weighed myself I was down five pounds from just the cleanse ( around 9:30 a.m) but this morning when I weighed myself I was up two pounds from yesterday ( 5 a.m) and now I feel discouraged and am scared the max phase won’t work..:( I work out everyday but one, 2 days of weights and 4 days of cardio.. Could I weigh more bc it’s earlier in the morning or bc I’m sore from weights yesterday.. Help I just need answers:(
DON’T WEIGH EVERYDAY!!! There are studies that say even a bottle of water could make you weigh 2lbs more! Relax! It works! Keep up what you are doing and pick 1 day a week to weigh at the same time!
I didn’t purchase the catalyst! On day 4 really have no energy to workout! Is that the issue?
If you calories have drastically dropped that could be why. It is way less carbs so that could explain your crash. That will go away when your body adjusts! Catalyst helps but is not the “answer”
Okay – one more question! 😉 Would drinking a shakeology (chocolate) meal replacement be considered okay on the cleanse?

We’ve been trying to eat healthier for the past month but decided the cleanse is the way to go. We’ve recently replaced chips and salty snacks with pistachio nuts. Are those still okay to eat on the cleanse or only the nuts you listed on your page? Also, I typically take over the counter sleep aids at night to help me fall asleep. Are those still okay to use? Does anything in the 10 day cleanse affect birth control pills? I read that senna can??!! Now Im scared!
We aren’t medical experts so we can only tell you that from our experience it hasn’t seemed to affect our birth control.

Kayla, everyone says don’t drink alcohol since alcohol is empty calories and depending on what you are drinking high in carbs and/or high in sugar. Not to mention if you drink a little too much alcohol you tend to make poorer food choices that would not be in line with what you should eat on the cleanse. If you have one or two glasses of wine on the cleanse you’ll be ok though it mostly likely will still affect your results.
I am on day 3 of my cleanse and I have not had carbs yet other than fruit. I was wondering if I could add some complex carbs in my diet for dinner I tend to be starving at bedtime but fine throughout the day, I eat protein and fruit in the morning and protein and vegetable for lunch and dinner and workout for 2 hours each day. What should I do to optimize fullness at night? thank you
Hi, Casey! Sorry we missed your window with the cleanse, but YES, add in some complex carbs. You want to still limit complex carbs to no more than one a day, but they are definitely a part of the cleanse!

Hi, Carol!! Unfortunately, neither one of us have the medical expertise to really say you can or cannot do this cleanse. It would be best if you consulted with your doctor before doing the cleanse. The food part of this cleanse is taking you back to natural, unprocessed food which we all should be getting back to but we as far as the actual advocare products that go with it please talk to your doctor first!
i started the 10 day cleanse and im at the end of day 2, this evening i got super dizzy after dinner along with a few heart palps and thought i was going to fall over, it felt freaky and lasted about 15 seconds, then a buddy of mine told me it was because i have always eaten so horrible that my body is in a bit of a shock. i do work out and i have been eating perfect the past 2 days along with drinking a gallon of water a day, no sugars, no carbs other than some red potatoes for dinner, egg whites in AM and i have the meal replacement shake for mid day if i need it.
Just wanted to see if my lightheadness was a common side effect when going from eating horrid to eating perfect so quickly?
I’m on day 2 of the cleanse. Day one wasn’t too bad except for after taking the Spark…I’m not a caffeine person, don’t drink coffee or tea and maybe 1 diet pepsi during the day. About 1 1/2hrs after taking the Spark, my heart was racing, I felt like I was trying to crawl out of my skin, overall not a good feeling. Talked to my distributor (friend) and she’s never heard of this happening. bottom line, no more Spark for this girl! I’m sure i’ll do fine without it. Being a diabetic I need to get back on track and this is my starting point. I’m glad I read not to have bread/pasta during the cleanse part, that wasn’t shared with me….I really want to do a good job!
Hi, Carol! Keep up the good work! And way to go on getting back on track! It can be hard, but you can do it. Take it one day at a time! We have heard of Spark making people shakey before…but then there are other’s that it doesn’t do that to and they love it!
Spark can be a lot for some people. As a distributor it’s hard to say but it’s not out fav product at all. Teal has had similar reactions! Just leave it out! You will be fine! This diet is excellent for diabetics and aids in the control of blood sugar
Why no shrimp?
Shrimp are bottom feeders and are typically are not a “clean food” due to how they are processed and eaten. They are like breeding groups for bacteria.
Im on day 3 of the cleanse and ate 2 chicken wings and potatoes for dinner will it affect me. Do i have to start over
You don’t need to start over but it could possibly affect the outcome of the cleanse. The cleanse is trying to take you back to real, unprocessed foods and depending on how the chicken wings were made they could very well have taken you briefly back to processed food. Try and stick with the 80/20 rule, but of course sticking as close to the guidelines of the cleanse will likely give you maximum results. Be on track with the guidelines at least 80% of the time!
I am on day #2 of the cleanse, I am feeling good about how things are progressing, Cannot wait to the end of 24 days to see how the numbers look. Is it ok to use craisens in my morning oatmeal? This may be a silly question, the “meal replacement shake…is it to replace an entire meal? or in addition to a meal? Can it be any meal of the day or only breakfast? Thanks so much for all the positive words, Jan! And hope the cleanse has been going well now that you are on day #5! Craisins do have a lot of sugar in them so that’s a big downside to them, but if that’s the one place where you are adding in a little something extra you’ll be fine. You want to follow the cleanse guidelines as much as possible, but sometimes following the 80/20 rule is more realistic (80% of what you eat is on target, 20% is your wiggle room and where Craisins would fall). Just be weary of venturing off anymore elsewhere! Or try adding real fruit into your oatmeal and then you’ll be on track! The meal replacement shake is in fact to replace an entire meal and no, it is not just limited to breakfast!

Yes, Courtney, that is similar to options we would make for ourselves while on the cleanse! Drink lots of water and eat lots of raw veggies to help with the starving!

For the antibiotics I would suggest talking to your doctor. Really same for the pill but We never had an issue with the cleanse effecting that 😉

I just started the cleanse/challenge. I found I needed coffee because I have a splitting headache. While I don’t mind it black, I’m wondering if stevia is ok to use during this challenge? I can’t get a solid answer, some say yes, some say no.
There really isn’t one with so many differing opinions! Use the cleanest stevia you can find! It will be fine!
I am on day 4 of hte cleanse 🙂 It is going well so far. I have been eating steele cut oats for breakfast with unsweetened almond milk. Today for lunch I had a whole wheat wrap with hummus spread, avocado, sprouts, tomatos and spinach. Tonight I am making turkey tacos but I will eat mine as a salad. Is all this OK? I am having an apple with organic almond butter as a snack. I have a sweet tooth and that is hte hardest part for me 🙂

Just curious as to why you recommend only 1 complex carb a day when he daily guide has a complex carb listed with both breakfast and dinner? I’m almost done with the cleanse and have been eating a complex carb with both meals. There seems to be lots of conflicting information on what is and isn’t acceptable during this phase of the 24 day challenge.
It’s best to have one a day for weight loss on the cleanse, you can goose either or, or both! Not a worry if you keep it a clean complex carb!
Hi, my boyfriend and I are on our 2nd day of the 24 day challenge and he is doing awesome and feels great. Me on the other hand, I am craving carbs and feel hungry all day, even after a meal. What would you recommend?

Thanks for the comment!! We suggest eating more veggies, eat a cucumber, an in desperate times eat a rice cake and peanut butter! Lots of water! Really most important thing is to keep with clean foods. Eating too much fruit will not “Hurt” you! We take an over all eat well approach to this and not a super stick ” oh god I’m a complex carb over” keep it clean and you will be fine!
Good morning! Started reading at the beginning but scrolled so I might have missed this? I am on day 3 and I was so concentrated on making sure I ate b/fast, I forgot the fiber drink! No way I can go home & get it.

Good rule if thumb for anything, including missing vitamins is to just move on! Don’t worry about it and keep eating clean!
I just started the 24 day challenge and I’m getting really frustrated with figuring out what I can eat! The daily guide that comes with it says that you can have any kind of potato and wheat products and you are saying no. I need help!!!
We avoid them for weightloss purposes! You will lose more weight if you can avoid starchy carbs like that.

Not normal for the cleanse at all…. I would call a dr if that continues as it could be something else. The cleanse does not have that effect. Stay hydrated
This is my first day on the cleanse. I like the green tea from Sonic. Is this ok to have while on the cleanse? I only get it in the morning on my way to work.
We have doubts on what exactly would be in it from sonic. If it literally is green yea it’s probably ok. We would suggest brewing it at home from an organic source so you know what’s in it. Fast food people are knowing for hiding crap in food!

Okay so, I started my Advocare February 13th. The first day I missed my fiber drink because I didn’t really open the herbal cleanse box yet and I fell asleep before taking my herbal cleanse tablets. I had fallen asleep another night during the cleanse tablets too so now I have two left over. Also, I didnt realize that on day 6 and 7 you don’t take the fiber drink and I did. So now I don’t have one for day 9 and 10. Did I royally screw the plan up?!:(

Hey Im doing the 24 day challenge. Im a skinny man and exercise everyday. 30 mins elliptical and 30 minutes on a muscle group. I did this challenge because I want to gain muscle bulk. I haven’t been doing too good personally. Last night my girl made home made lasagna. I’m trying to power eat as well. My protein intake is about 150g a day. Im on day 3, did I make a big mistake? I took out juice, alcohol, and coffee out of my diet. I love pastas and its hard to resist the temptation.
We would def avoid lasagna. Pasta is not bad if not excessive and would count as your complex carb for the day! Lasagna and the dairy aren’t food for the cleanse but you aren’t screwed! Just keep it clean for the next week!
I started the cleanse this week…I am doing the nursing challenge so drinking the peaches and cream which doesn’t taste bad but i throw up after talking it the sparks. and the catalyst and probiotic…I feel like I need some kind of food in me first…I have a pretty week stomach to begin with what should u do?
Try skipping spark. That I where we suggest starting and see how that goes.

We would suggest making your own oats and adding real cinnamon and apple. The sugar levels in that stuff is usually pretty high garlic salt is totally fine!

Hi, Kim! You did the Advocare 10 day cleanse a month ago? The thing is you don’t really have to wait 90 days to eat the way you did on the cleanse. Hopefully the cleanse is a way to jump start you into a healthier way of eating by trying to incorporate as many fresh foods on a daily basis. We definitely recommend building in a cheat day as those tend to help one stay the course instead of being strict with food for 3 months then have a week (or longer) binge. But we would stick with the recommendation of doing it every 90 days, however, you could try it again and see how it works for you.

Hi, Ashley! We would actually recommend that you steer clear of marinades as much as possible. Store bought marinades are far from the “clean eating” variety. The cleanse can be hard for those types who are love any and all condiments because most of them just aren’t cleanse approved. For dressing you best option is to really go with salsa, fresh squeezed lemon juice and spices instead.

I finished my cleanse and felt great. Today I started the max phase and I have a MAJOR headache and feel a little nauseated. I had the spark and tons of water??? What am I doing wrong? Also, can you take Motrin or Aleve ?
Hey, Theresa!! Congrats on finishing the cleanse!! One alternative you could try is drinking some coconut water NOT from concentrate. Make sure it clearly says that on the bottle – we have found that this can sometimes be a good headache remedy.

Second not sure what medications you are on, but really the cleanse is about getting your body back to basics. Getting you eating real, natural and unprocessed foods. You really shouldn’t have issues with your medications but if you do notice anything out of the ordinary or what a firm answer on this it’s best to talk to your family practitioner! Good luck on the cleanse! And do now that in the beginning of a cleanse your workouts can be harder to get through – listen to your body!!
Hello! I’m ending Day 3 of the cleanse and I’m afraid the only results I’m seeing/feeling is extreme bloating. Occasionally my stomach cramps. I do feel that I have a slight increase in energy. My diet has not been perfect by any means, but I’ve done pretty well. I am drinking about 3/4 a gallon. I do cardio for about 30 mins, then lift for 30 mins. What can I do to help with the bloating? It’s extremely uncomfortable!
Sometimes it take our body awhile to adjust to the fiber increase in the cleanse or even just the increase in water. Continue what you are doing in that regards and it should even out. You can also try some classic remedies like adding lemon to your water, making sure you are not eating any dairy, drink coconut water, make sure you are getting 25 grams of fiber per day, and use turmeric or ginger spice in water or food.
Hi, I am doing the cleanse and on day 8 I should have started fiber drink again but did not notice that until this morning. So I would be drinking fiber drink on day 10,11,12. is that ok

I am a first-timer and on day 3 of the cleanse. Days 1-3 I had a half cup of coffee with a small amount (about 1 Tbsp) of half and half and truvia (Can I have artificial sugars??)… I didn’t know coffee was a no-no and dairy was a no-no for the cleanse phase! I also had meal replacement shakes on days 1-2 (according to the book they were optional! OOPS!) I’m on track now… any advice for my mistakes??
Hi, Melissa! That at least sounds like a very small, indeed, amount of creamer! You already had the coffee, it is what it is, but maybe try to go without for the rest of the cleanse part. In life you have to build in a little bit of cheat to keep going and we tend to live by that (the 90/10 rule if you will) for the cleanse as well. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Sorry if we gave you the impression that you shouldn’t do the meal replacement shakes on days 1-2 that should be fine! Just keep on going and let us know how you do after the 10 days are up!
On day five of the cleanse. I wanted pizza really bad today so i chewed the pizza and spit it out just to get the taste…Is that bad?

Hi, Kail! Well, we aren’t doctors and ultimately don’t have a way of answering that with 100% certainty. Both of us have done the cleanse on birth control and it did not effect us on birth control.
Hi! I’ve done the advocare cleanse 2 times and I’m doing it for a third time right now. The first time I did it 14 days and lost 8 pounds, the second time I lost 6 pounds also in 14 days, but right now I’m on day 7 and Ive only lost 2 pounds. I’ve been too busy to go run but today I’m planning on running later. Have I not lost a lot of weight because I’m not exercising or what else could cause that? Thank you!
Hi, Alexi! It’s been our personal experience that you lose the most on a cleanse in your first cleanse and chances are you won’t lose that same amount again. At the same time sometimes the scale takes a little bit longer to reflect the clean eating that you are doing, so keep at it, add in that exercise and see what the scale says at the end of your 10 days!

i think the weight loss is a bonus…
if u make the life style change and incorporate exercise into your routine, u should notice a weight change…
that being said, losing weight would should be a gradual process not a huge loss all at once-not healthy, and not good for your body
the main focus should be how do u feel?
i felt so much better on the 24 day challenge; since completing the challenge i have regained the weight i lost and feel soooo frumpy…

Thanks for the tips. This is all so overwhelming to me and you helped explain it very well! I just started the cleanse today and am so excited to feel better and change my eating habits. The only problem I am having is with the fiber drink. That thing is terrible. I only got half of it down this morning and gagged the rest up every other time I tried. I drank it fast as I was told but still couldn’t do the whole thing. Any tips? I heard about making it into muffins but wouldn’t that count as a carb? HELP?! Im so confused and want to do this RIGHT!

I was wondering if during the cleanse phase is it necessary to eat each food group they list on each meal time. For example could I just eat a protein for breakfast or do I need to eat fruit and complex carb too. Does it make a difference?
Chaylie, you can do just a protein if you’d like! Complex carbs like brown rice, oatmeal, quinoa, you want to limit while on the cleanse and not have at every meal!

Hi, Lindsey! It’s so hard for us when people ask us a question that falls into the medical category as we are far from experts in the medical field. What we can tell you is we both have done the cleanse while on birth control and none of the times we’ve done the cleanse have we gotten pregnant. 🙂
I have to take a physical for a new very important job. Is it OK to do the cleanse if I have blood tests and complete physical within 5 or six days.
Hey, Brent! We don’t see why not! Granted we aren’t in medicine so if you are truly concerned this might be a problem then you should maybe refrain. Ultimately the cleanse is about eating clean so you could do that then once your physical is over actual participate in the cleanse. Good luck!
Hubby and I will be starting the 10d cleanse tmrw! There is some conflicting info and I just want to see if you would clear it up: is whole wheat pasta okay? (Seen yes and seen no pasta at all). Mushrooms? (Seen veggies are good and seen they are molds so a no-no).
Also what about: Coconut milk? Low sodium Soy sauce? Worcestershire sauce?
Hi, Kirsten! Sorry to get back to you after you’ve started the cleanse. We would say whole wheat pasta is fine just stick with the one serving a day though. Mushrooms are NOT ok on the cleanse because they are a fungus. Soy sauce is also NOT ok on the cleanse but a great substitution for it would be Bragg’s Liquid Amminos or Coconut Aminos. As for coconut milk it is ok as long as you stick with unsweetened and organic if possible! Hope that helps!

We think that’s really up to you! Try it out before? Or if you want to wait then give it a go after Medifast. We aren’t that familiar with Medifast other than we know it’s a weightloss program. Do you stick to it for a specific number of days?

About cleansing and nursing. Asked my doc, she said absolutely NOT! Toxins leaving the body leave through all moisture leaving the body’ so toxins will be released into breast milk, also’ you don’t know the cleanse itself may get into breast milk and may not be good for baby. So pump and dump.
Glad you asked! Really you do need nutrients while breastfeeding and trying any sort of weight loss regime with eating could mess w/your supply. Gotta watch out for baby first!

First off….. I love your page, its been the most helpful thing I’ve found by far!!! Secondly, this is my first challenge so I have a couple of questions… I love spicy, flavorful food. I’ve been blackening my chicken and then grilling it, is that ok? I know Advocare says seasonings are ok, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about blacken seasoning. Well, good luck with the challenge! To answer your questions – we understand the back and forth on the blacken seasoning. We would say there isn’t a problem with it per se, but while on the challenge maybe have it in moderation. We think because water chestnuts are grown in marshes they might not be the most “clean” food item, but if you go with moderation like you said that should work and probably in this case treat them like a starch that you eat sparingly while on the cleanse. And sorry to be a downer but soy sauce is a big NO on the cleanse. You could use Bragg’s Liquid Aminos in place of soy sauce. Just remember the 80/20 rule try and be on point with your eating at least 80% of the time and then leave learning/figuring it out/general mistakes for the other 20%. Plus the 80/20 rule is just great for life in general! Again, good luck! Let us know if you have any other questions!

Hi, Kerri! It has and to the best of us! In life and even on the cleanse/challenge we say follow the 80/20 rule. So the cupcake went into the 20%. Try to be on with your clean eating at least 80% of the time.
Ugh day 3 and it’s close to that time of the month. I broke down and ate like 6 mini Reese’s 😭😭

I am on Day 1 of the cleanse and I have done this before with great results. My question is, can I be drinking too much water? According to the guide I should be drinking 105oz a day, half my body weight. But I typically drink around 175-200oz. Is that doing more harm than good?
WOAH! That is a lot of water! It’s hard to answer that question without a little bit more information, for instance, what is your daily activity level like? It would be our opinion to cut back on your water intake and stick to around half your body weight. Why don’t you at least test it out for say a week and see if you notice a change?

Two questions – can you eat peanut butter on the cleanse and hummus chips. They appear to be make from chickpeas with not a lot of sugar and pretty low calorie.
So are you finished with the cleanse now?! If so sorry about that! We eat peanut butter on the cleanse! We would probably need more information to reeeeally answer your question about hummus chips. They might not be the best option because they probably are still a processed food, but way better than eating fried food. Maybe just limit the intake of them!
On day 3, I had three beers yesterday, feel like I screwed up the whole thing. I won’t do it again on the cleanse, I haven’t slipped, eating plenty of veggies, salad, proteins too and drinking lots of water, is decaf coffee OK?

We’ve been there and done that. You didn’t completely screw it up, obviously, it is not ideal. We do very much say 80/20 rule! Make sure you are on point with your eating and everything for at least 80% of the time and only let mistakes make up 20% or less of the time! Are you putting anything in your decaf coffee?
I’m pretty much eating salads for lunch, with protein in them. Low calorie dressing. Cleanse days I had two boiled eggs for breakfast, hand full of veggies, small amount of fruit. When I did have decaf, I was putting spends, very little, and a little liquid creamer. Not much. I think its just the habit of coffee. But I only did that maybe one or two days. I’ve been very good. Dinner is hard knowing what sides to make, breakfast and lunch are easy. Tomorrow I start day 12
Just started the challenge today. A couple questions. Your thoughts on propel that you pour in your water? As well as slim fast protein meal bars? Thanks!!

Sorry to just now get back to you! As far as the propel goes….we would say use actual fruit to flavor your water over a powder! And as far as the slim fast protein meal bars, we say go for it with them after doing a comparison of one versus the Advocare meal replacement shake.
